Farakka Barrage in Malda

Farakka Barrage which is one of the most famous picnic spot is situated within 35 kms from the Malda, and was built across the River Ganges during the year 1974 - 1975 under supervision of Hindustan Construction. This Barrage lies between Murshidabad and Malda (2 districts of West Bengal). The Farakka Barrage Project was actually designed for the maintenance as well as for the sake of preserving the Kolkata Port. This Project is found to be the longest barrage that features the length of approximately 2,240 meters. Further added to the Guinness book of World Records.

Lukochuri Darwaja in Malda

Tourists can find another interesting historical spot well-known as the 'Lukochuri Darwaja' (place of hide and seek). Tourists will be able to find the architectural features of the structure that is constructed in the perfect Mughal style, which has the brick-made gateway, as well as it has a rectangular design, etc. This structure has been viewed in three stores, and the top storey comprises of the 3-large windows (Machicoulis). Baroduari in Malda

Baroduari is said to be a historical rectangular structure that has been made of bricks and stones, and is also known as the 'Bara Sona Masjid'. It is found to be the largest monument in Gaur, and is actually features eleven doors. Construction of Baroduari was started by Allauddin Hussein Shah, but was completed during the era of Nasiruddin Nusrat Shah (Son of Allauddin) and dates back to 1526.

Firoze Minar in Malda

Tourist spots in MaldaThe Firoze Minar (Historic Tower) is established over the southeastern region of Dakhil Darwaza. Here the tower stands with pride with a height of 26 m that features the dedications of the King Saif al-Din. This historic tower is found to be the reconstruction done to the Qutab Minar of Delhi. Tourists will be able to find the helical flight of steps (approximately 84 steps) that leads to the top of the tower. There are even upper two tiers of the tower, are in the circular style, and the lower tiers are found to be in polygon shape. One can feel amazed to watch the Tughlaqi style of architecture in the whole structure.

Sagar Dighi of Malda is a large tank that is built during the 12th century, which has 4 corner sides that delights tourists with its amazing structure.While the region even gives the safe appeal to the colorful birds that visit from far places during winter. Adina Masjid in Malda

Adina Masjid is another tourist attraction that displays the equal importance of the Hindus and Muslims in the Malda. The interesting fact about this Masjid is that, this mosque or masjid is constructed over the top of a Hindu temple, and comprises total of 378 small domes, which is identified as the biggest mosque in India. This mosque is decorated with the tremendous complex carvings that have the calligraphic inscriptions along with the non-calligraphic surface ornamentation. There are certain complex designs which were included in the geometrical patterns, as well as the vegetation motifs, even there are rosettes and abstract arabesque designs. Such type of designs intricate the sanctuary interior together along with the 3-black basalt that is carved ‘mihrabs’, which are also known as prayer niches.  There is a stone that is 4 feet in length, and comprises of the ornament lines (circular panels) of about 7 ft 14 inches in the diameter which is created by the stalks of lotus repeatedly, and there are animals, birds, and mammals carved on the panels. This is one of the great attractions that has been creating waves in the city tourism, and had been attracting several tourists towards the city of Malda.

Chika Masjid in Malda

This single-domed mosque was said to be constructed under the benevolence of the Sultan Yusuf Shah during the year 1475. The specialty of this mosque is that, it has several features – it owns few traces of some of the Hindu temple architecture and has given the name as Chika (Chika meaning bats). The name is given as Chika, due to the lots of bats covering the mosque since long period.

How to Reach Malda ?

One can reach the city from the Malda Town to Malda, as both are well connected. Popular railway station is known as 'the Malda Town'. There are many trains which are linked to the North of West Bengal, as well as other North East States in India, which crosses via Malda Town Station. The city of Malda lies on National Highway 81, that is connected to the Kora in Bihar and the Malda of West Bengal, where the central terminal was established. Malda Airport was closed long time ago (because of the Bangladesh War), and now there are no more flights to Malda. The nearest city for air services is Koltata.One can find different transportation facilities that is meant for the tourists which includes the cycle rickshaws and services like the auto rickshaws, as well as the local buses. You will not find any metered vehicle transport here. You will get the six-seater autos between the Malda, and the Old Malda with a fixed rate fixed by the municipal authorities.
